Philadelphia, PA- The PhilaU men's and women's rowing team had a short but successful fall season sthis year, posting solid results in four separate regattas. The teams competed at the Navy Day Regatta, the Head of the Schuylkill, the Frostbite Regatta and the Bill Braxton Memorial Regatta. The following is a recap of the fall 2009 season:
The Philadelphia University rowing teams opened up the new season at the Navy Day Regatta on the Schuylkill River where the women's college eight boat took 11th-place overall, while the men's eight took 20th overall. The women's college four took sixth, while the men's college four took 12th.
At a rainy Head of the Schuylkill Regatta on the Schuylkill River the Women's Open Championship Eight took 10th place, (15:38) and the men finished in 13th-place in the Men's Open Club Eight race.
At the Bill Braxton/Frostbite Regattas, highlights for the women this weekend included the V8 taking 1st in the flight at Bill Braxton (5:21.11), beating out both Binghamton and St. Mary's College while the V4 took third at the Frostbite (8:15.93) in their heat. Highlights for the men this weekend included the V4 winning their flight at the Bill Braxton (5.00.57) and at Frostbite the V8 took fifth in their heat (6:50.17).
