Four PhilaU Athletes Earn CACC Honors
Philadelphia, PA- Four Philadelphia University student-athletes earned Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) awards for the week ending on Sunday, April 19th.
The awards were highlighted by freshman #1 men's singles tennis player Adrian Torroella-Cruz's (Gainesville, FL/ Gainesville) seventh weekly CACC award this year, garnering ‘Rookie of the Week' after going 3-0 in wins over Chestnut Hill and West Chester this week. He has literally taken over the Rookie award this year, as he has been awarded all five honors for the season. He also earned ‘Player of the Week' twice.
Men's tennis sophomore teammate Tom McAvoy (Phoenixville, PA/ Phoenixville) got an ‘Honorable Mention' nod this week after going undefeated at #2 doubles (3-0 on the week), including the team's only point over #4 east-region Adelphi.
Two women's lacrosse players also got ‘Honorable Mention' accolades: sophomore midfielder Michelle O'Hanlon (Springfield, PA/ Springfield) and freshman Taylor Peltzer (Holland, PA/ Archbishop Wood). O'Hanlon scored six goals and four assists in three contests, while Peltzer chipped in seven goals on the week.
