PhilaU Baseball & Softball Garner Season-End CACC Awards
Philadelphia, PA- In the final week of the spring season for Philadelphia University's baseball and softball teams, several PhilaU student-athletes earned both Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) weekly awards as well as All-Conference.
Softball freshman catcher Katie Renner (Berryville, VA/ Brunswick) was named ‘Rookie of the Week' for the first time this season, after hitting .750 last week with an .800 on-base percentage in the CACC Tournament. Renner went 3-4 at the plate with a home run and three RBIs in an elimination-game victory over #1 tournament seeded Dominican College. She also drove in nine runs for the week and hit four doubles with four runs scored.
The CACC Baseball All-Conference Team was announced and four PhilaU players made the cut. Junior shortstop Tyler Mentzer (Gettysburg, PA/ Delone Catholic) was named to the first team while senior outfielder Dan Ellmer (Trenton, NJ/ Nottingham) and junior pitcher Brian Rousseau (Wantagh, NY/ Wantagh) were named to the second team. Sophomore pitcher Jared Farbman (Philadelphia, PA/ Central) earned All-Conference ‘Honorable Mention' as well as weekly ‘Honorable Mention' for his performance last week, allowing three hits and one run in eight innings pitched vs. CACC second-ranked Bloomfield College.
