New Haven, CT- The Philadelphia University women's tennis team was selected to finish second in the Central Athletic Collegiate Conference (CACC) preseason poll, as voted on by the eight head coaches in the league. They are in second place behind Holy Family University, who was the unanimous number one choice.
"We feel good about where we are and our goal is to achieve the number one ranking," said head women's tennis coach Marty Gilbert.
The Lady Rams went 17-7 last year and 6-1 in conference action and earned a berth into the NCAA Regional. Despite losing 2007 CACC Player of the Year, Maddie Smith, the team welcomes back five players who saw significant action last season. Topping the list is the sophomore duo of Daniela and Adriana Rodriguez. Daniela went 15-5 at No. 2 singles last season, while Adriana compiled a stellar 19-1 mark at No. 3. In addition, Adriana teamed with Smith to capture the 2007 CACC doubles championship.
Action will begin September 2nd at 4:00 p.m. at Cabrini College.
