Maturity, Strength Will Drive Womens Soccer in 2008
Philadelphia, PA- Expectations are high in 2008 for the Philadelphia University women's soccer team, as seven seniors including All-Northeast Region goalkeeper and tri-captain Sara Hall (Newark, DE/ Charter Wilmington) return for their final season.
"Our sights are on winning the CACC and going to the NCAA tournament," stated head coach George Dunbar.
The Lady Rams will return several top players including the remaining senior tri-captains forward Brianna Reinford (Gilbertsville, PA/ Pottsgrove) and midfielder Rebecca Kennedy (Forest Lake, MN/ Forest Lake). Junior Cari Schenkel (Pitman, NJ/ Pitman) will bring depth to the defense while sophomores Sara Redka (Williamsport, PA/ Williamsport) and Natalie Vespe (Acto, NJ/ St. Joseph) are also expected to contribute at the midfield and forward positions.
Key newcomers include: defender Lisa Lungaro (Stony Point, NY/ North Rockland), midfielders Erin Walter (West Islip, NY/ West Islip), Gabrielle Haden (Freehold, NJ/ Colts Neck), and Ashley Winter (Dayton, NV/ Dayton).
The Lady Rams were chosen to finish second in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) preseason poll, after winning the ECAC title and finishing as runners-up in the CACC Tournament in 2007.
The season begins on Friday, August 29th at Shippensburg University at 5:00 p.m. and the home-opener will be on Thursday, September 4th at 4:30 p.m.
