Errors Doom Rams in 11-1 Loss to Post

Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University Rams (4-16, 1-4 CACC) lost 11-1 to the Post University Eagles (12-4, 3-0) Friday afternoon at Alumni Field.

The Rams committed nine errors over the course of the game that led to 11 runs for the Post Eagles.

Small ball was the story in the 1st inning, with both teams tallying an early run. The Eagles took the lead in the top of the second, scoring two runs on an error and two base hits. Post tacked on another run in the top of the third, scoring an unearned run after Tyler Wilschetz reached on an error and eventually came around to score on a single.

Another Eagle base runner crossed the plate in the seventh inning on a single by Jim Conto. The Rams threatened in the bottom of the inning after junior rightfielder Mike Anderson Waldwick, NJ/ Waldwick) and senior catcher Jason Hartley (Levittown, PA/ Neshaminy) both singled, but Eagles pitcher Tim McCarthy shut the door with a strikeout.

Post tallied six more runs in the eighth and ninth innings, five of which were unearned, and the Eagles increased their lead to 11-1, which would be the final tally.

The Rams pitching staff was led by freshman right-hander Garrett Buehler (Harleysville, PA/ Souderton) and senior right-hander Steve Benner (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan). Buehler threw 6.2 innings and surrendered two earned runs while giving up six hits and striking out seven. Benner threw the remainder of the way, 2.1 innings, and surrendered no earned runs while giving up three hits and striking out one.

Post's Tim McCarthy threw a complete game six-hitter and struck out 10 PhilaU batters.

Up next for the Rams is the second half of the home and home series with Post University tomorrow, March 28th scheduled for a 2:00 p.m doubleheader.
