Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University Rams (5-17, 2-4 CACC) split a doubleheader with the Post University Eagles (13-5, 4-1 CACC) Saturday afternoon in Waterbury, CT.
In game one, the Rams jumped to an earl 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI groundout by designated hitter Kevin McGovern (Philadelphia, PA/ Archbishop Ryan). Post quickly answered and took the lead, scoring a combined five runs in the third and fourth innings.
Both teams added a run in the sixth inning and Post added one more in eighth to take game one 7-2.
The Rams turned it around in game two, scoring runs in bunches against the Eagles. PhilaU struck first, with left fielder Matt Fischer (Philadelphia, PA/ St. Joe's Prep) coming around to score on shortstop Tyler Menzter's (Gettysburg, PA/ Delone Catholic) RBI double.
The teams exchanged runs over the next couple innings, but after Post tied the game in fifth inning at 4-4, the Rams came back in the top of sixth and scored two runs on a double by catcher Bill Dorgan (Lancaster, PA/ Lampeter-Strasburg). The Rams would not relinquish the lead and took game two 6-4.
Pitching by committee was another story in the doubleheader, with six Rams pitchers seeing multiple inning action over the course of the afternoon.
The Rams next visit Chestnut Hill College on Tuesday, March 31st to finish up the three game set with the Griffins. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
