Rams Split with Felician, Take Game One 8-6
Piscataway, NJ- The Philadelphia University Rams (12-26, 9-12 CACC) split a CACC doubleheader with the Felician College Golden Falcons (21-20, 11-11 CACC) today in Piscataway, NJ.
In game one, the Golden Falcons took a 2-0 lead on a home run and an RBI single in the third inning. The Rams responded with a run in the fifth inning but Felician kept the two run lead by adding another run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
PhilaU exploded for seven runs in the top of the seventh inning, taking an 8-3 lead. The runs were scored on multiple singles and some walks. The inning was capped off by a three run triple off the bat of junior shortstop Tyler Mentzer (Gettysburg, PA/Delone Catholic). Felician was able to score three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, but the threat was stopped as sophomore right hander Kevin McGovern (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) was able to roll a ground ball to end the game. The Rams took game one 8-6.
Game two was a different story, with the Rams taking a commanding 7-2 lead after two innings. The scoring was lead by McGovern and sophomore third baseman Anthony DiFrancesco (Landenburg, PA/Salesianum). McGovern drilled a two run double in the first inning followed DiFrancesco's two RBI triple in the second inning. But this is all the scoring the Rams would do as Felician's pitching stepped up and finished the game. The Golden Falcons tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning and added three more over the next two innings and took game two by a score of 10-7.
Leading the way for the Rams was freshman right hander Garrett Buehler (Harleysville, PA/Souderton), Tyler Mentzer and Kevin McGovern. Buehler tossed 8.0 innings, surrendering 10 hits but only allowed three runs and struck out five. Mentzer was the big producer in game one, going 3-for-5 with three RBI's. McGovern was 3-for-5 on the day with two RBI's.
Up next for PhilaU is another CACC match against the University of the Sciences on Tuesday, April 28th. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
