Rams Split Doubleheader with Nyack, Take Game Two 3-2

Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University Rams (11-25, 8-11 CACC) split a CACC doubleheader with Nyack College (15-12, 11-9 CACC) today in Nyack, NY.

In game one, the Rams struck first, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Junior shortstop Tyler Mentzer (Gettysburg, PA/Delone Catholic) came around to score on an error. Junior outfielder Mike Anderson (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) came around to score off a single by freshman designated hitter Garrett Buehler (Harleysville, PA/Souderton). Nyack answered quickly, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first.

Scoring went back and forth for the rest of the game, and the Rams finally took the lead in the top of the fifth inning, taking an 8-6 lead. The rest of scoring belonged to Nyack, as the Warriors came back to win the game in the bottom of ninth inning on a bases loaded walk. The game ended with Nyack taking a 9-8 victory.  

Scoring was less in game two, but again PhilaU struck first, scoring the first run of the game in third inning when sophomore third baseman Anthony DiFrancesco (Landenburg, PA/ Salesianum) came around to score on a single by Mike Anderson. Nyack tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning but the Rams immediately responded, scoring two runs in the top of the ninth to take a 3-1 lead. Nyack managed to get one run across, but sophomore right hander Jared Farbman (Philadelphia, PA/Central) shut the down and the Rams took home a 3-2 victory.

Leading the way for the Rams was Jared Farbman and Garrett Buehler. Buehler went 3-for-8 with two RBI's on the day for the Rams, including a clutch RBI single in the top of the eighth inning of game two, giving the Rams the insurance run they needed in the win. Farbman kept the Nyack hitters in check for the most part, allowing two runs on six hits in eight innings pitched while striking out five.

Next up for the Rams is a doubleheader tomorrow, April 26th at Felician College to complete the season series with the Golden Falcons. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
