Rams Sweep Doubleheader, Season Series vs. the Devils

Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University Rams (15-26, 12-12 CACC) swept a doubleheader 6-1, 6-0 against the University of the Sciences Devils (3-37, 2-21 CACC) today at Richie Asburn Field in Philadelphia.

In game one, the Rams grabbed the lead in first inning after sophomore third baseman Anthony DiFrancesco (Landenberg, PA/Salesianum) hit a double and came around to score on a Devils error. PhilaU added another run in the third inning after senior outfielder Dan Ellmer (Trenton, NJ/Nottingham) was driven in by junior shortstop Tyler Mentzer (Gettysburg, PA/Delone Catholic).

The Rams exploded for four runs in the fifth inning, breaking the game open on a pair of hits and a couple of USP errors. The Devils were able to score a run in the bottom half of the fifth, but that was all they could get as sophomore left hander Brian Rousseau (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) threw eight innings of one run ball, surrendering just five hits and striking out seven. PhilaU took game one 6-1.

In game two with the Rams struck first again- this time in the second inning. PhilaU added two runs in the third and three runs in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead that they would not relinquish. Pitching the shutout effort were junior right hander Rob Fisher (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) and senior right hander Jason Hartley (Levittown, PA/Neshaminy). Fisher threw six scoreless innings, allowing just seven hits while Hartley finished out the game, surrendering no hits and striking out one.

Leading the way for the Rams offensively were DiFrancesco and senior outfielder Kyle Noonan (Morristown, NJ/Morristown). DiFrancesco went 4-for-9 on the day with a double and an RBI. Noonan was equally as impressive, going 3-for-6 with a double and two RBI's.

Next up for the Rams is a single game at Bloomfield College on Friday, May 1st. First pitch for the night game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
