Rams Sweep Doubleheader vs. Wilmington

Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University Rams (9-19, 6-5 CACC) swept a doubleheader 8-2, 3-0 against the Wilmington University Wildcats (15-16, 6-6 CACC) today at Alumni Field.

In game one, the Rams struck first with a lead off double from junior centerfielder Dan Ellmer (Trenton, NJ/Nottingham), who eventually scored on a Wilmington throwing error. PhilaU added two more runs in the 2nd inning after senior catcher Jason Hartley (Levittown, PA/Neshaminy) scored on an Ellmer single. Ellmer came around to score on a triple by sophomore third baseman Anthony DiFrancesco (Landenburg, PA/Salesianum). The Wildcats responded with a run in the top of the 3rd on a walk and double.

The Rams opened the game up by scoring three runs in the 7th inning and 2 more runs in the 8th inning, putting the game out of reach for the Wildcats. The final score of the game was 8-2.

Leading the way for the PhilaU on offense was Anthony DiFrancesco and Dan Ellmer. Both players went 3-for-5 from the plate and each drove in a run. On the mound, sophomore left hander Brian Rousseau (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) held the Wilmington bats at bay, going 7.1 innings and giving up only five hits and two runs.

In the second game, the Rams struck first again and never looked back. Two runs were scored in first inning off a single by junior shortstop Tyler Mentzer (Gettysburg, PA/Delone Catholic) and a double by junior outfielder Mike Anderson (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick). PhilaU added another run in the 5th inning on a single by Anderson.

Senior right hander Kyle Noonan (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) went the distance, taking a no hitter into the 7th inning. Noonan surrendered only one hit and had four strikeouts. The Rams took game two 3-0.

The Maroon and Grey return to action Saturday, April 11th for a CACC doubleheader at Felician College. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
