The Philadelphia University Lady Rams wrapped up the regular season winning four of their last five games and grabbing the #2 seed in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South division. The team won the first two games of the CACC Tournament convincingly, leading the Lady Rams to the CACC Championship game, where they punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament with a 72-63 victory over Wilmington University.
The team's first ever CACC Championship win led the team to the East Regional, where the #8 seeded Lady Rams faced the #1 seeded and #14 nationally-ranked Franklin Pierce Ravens. The season ended for PhilaU with an 80-62 loss to the Ravens. The following are the highlights of the key contributors for the Lady Rams this season:
Three PhilaU athletes were named to the CACC Tournament team: junior forward Kate Brennan, senior guard Amanda Brennan and junior center Jess Romano, who also garnered CACC Tournament MVP. Amanda Brennan was also tabbed CACC All-Conference 2nd Team and Romano received CACC All-Conference 1st Team.
Romano, who led the team in scoring (18.6 ppg) and rebounding (11.0 rpg), was also named to the ECAC All-Star 2nd Team for her effort this season. She received WBCA National Player of the Month twice over the course of the season. She shot 48% from the floor and 83.8% from the free throw line.
Amanda Brennan was second on the team in scoring (14.1 ppg) that included shooting 41.7% from three-point and was ranked nationally in free throw percentage (88.8%).
The PhilaU front court was led by Nina Brascetta and Steph Agger. They were #1 and #2 on the team in assists, with Brascetta averaging 3.3 assists per game and Agger averaging 2.9 assists. They also averaged 5.6 and 8.6 points per game, respectively.
The team returns all five starters from this year's team, so look for the Lady Rams to be near the top of the CACC and defend their title next season.
