Lady Rams Take Season Opener 67-66 over NYIT

Old Westbury, NY- The PhilaU women's basketball team (1-0) started off the 2009-10 season just the way they were hoping to, with a 67-66 victory over New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) (0-1) on Sunday (11/15).  Senior center Jessica Romano (Horsham, PA/ Hatboro-Horsham) led all scorers with 30 points, seven rebounds, and one block.

The Lady Rams shot 44% from the field while the Bears shot 40%.

Senior forward Kate Brennan (Stratford, NJ/ Sterling) had a double-double scoring 16 points, and grabbing 12 rebounds.  She also had a steal during the game.

The Lady Rams were down five with 23 seconds left in the first half when senior guard Nina Brascetta had a lay-up to cut the deficit to three.  Brascetta finished the game with seven points and six assists.

Brascetta was once again in on the action with 1:12 left on the clock she found herself on the charity stripe.  She was able to knock down both free-throws giving the Rams a 67-60 lead. 

The Lady Rams will be back in action on Wednesday (11/18) at 6:00 PM when they open up conference play at Chestnut Hill College.
