Men's Tennis Team Play for CACC Title

The top two seeds in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Tennis Tournament, Concordia College and Philadelphia University, won their semi-final matches Tuesday afternoon to advance to the championship. The Clippers and Rams both won by 5-0 scores in semi-final action. They will meet Thursday at 3:00 pm at Chestnut Hill College for the title.

Concordia (21-3), which is ranked No. 1 in the region and 11th nationally, knocked off No. 4 University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, while Philadelphia got its victory over No. 4 Chestnut Hill.

Concordia, which went through the conference regular-season with a perfect 12-0 record, started the day with three victories in doubles. The most competitive match came at No. 2 doubles, as the Clipper duo of Raphael Namias and Felix Missal got past the USP team of Ricardo Martins and Chris Lukose, 8-3.

Concordia finished things off in No. 2 and No. 3 singles, with Andrey Boldarev and Missal claiming victories. Both won by 6-1, 6-0 scores. USP falls to 7-10 with the loss.

PhilaU (19-5), which is currently the fifth-ranked team in the region, was led by their doubles tandems, which gave the team an early 3-0 lead.  The No. 3 doubles team of juniors Tom McAvoy and Seppi Hutter put the first Ram point on the board, winning 8-4 over CHC’s Adrian Avena and David Negron.

Ram sophomore #5 singles player Eric Guerrero finished the day for PhilaU, getting a 6-0, 6-2 win over CHC’s John Reading to stop play for the 5-0 semifinal victory.  Philadelphia will be looking to repeat as CACC Champion after capping last season with a 5-0 victory over USP.
