CACC Weekly Awards Go Out to Four PhilaU Athletes
Philadelphia, PA- Four Philadelphia University student-athletes have earned weekly accolades from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) this week. Two freshmen- baseball’s Jeff Bohus (Cherry Hill, NJ/ Cherry Hill East) and men’s tennis’ Kyle Burke (Wakefield, RI/ Wakefield) earned their first-ever ‘Rookie of the Week’ awards.
A pitcher/infielder, Bohus threw a gem against Kutztown last week, going 7.1 innings and allowing just two hits to lead the Rams to an 11-2 victory. Burke, the Ram’s #3 singles player, went 3-0 in singles and 4-0 in doubles for PhilaU to help his squad secure a #2 seeding in the CACC Tournament.
CACC ‘Honorable Mention’ winners this week include softball sophomore pitcher Ali Schmidt (Cordova, MD/ Easton) and lacrosse senior midfielder Kathleen Maurer (Rochester, NY/ Our Lady of Mercy).
Schmidt went 4-0 last week with a 1.64 ERA. She also just pitched the first-ever perfect game in PhilaU softball history on 4/20 vs. Chestnut Hill to secure her place in the Lady Rams record books. Meanwhile, Maurer collected 15 points in three games last week for the women’s lacrosse team.
