CACC Weeklies: Three PhilaU Athletes Honored

Philadelphia, PA- Three Philadelphia University student-athletes were honored this week by the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) for their outstanding performances. 

PhilaU men’s soccer received CACC Player of the Week honors and CACC Rookie of the Week Honors. Ryan Purnell, a junior from Hamilton, Bermuda was awarded ‘Player of the Week’ for his remarkable performance against Chestnut Hill. Purnell scored two goals; leading the Rams to a 4-2 victory and helping the team clinch the #2 seed in the CACC Tournament.

Rookie goalkeeper Alex Heston allowed only four goals and stopped 14 shots this week, earning ‘Rookie of the Week’. Heston’s most impressive performance came against regionally-ranked St. Thomas Aquinas as he did not allow a single goal in the 1-0 victory.

Volleyball outside-hitter Leanna Lillge also accepted the CACC ‘Rookie of the Week’ award for the fifth time this season. Lillge averaged 3.8 kills and 4.42 digs-per-set.  She had 13 kills and 23 digs in the Ram’s victory over Felician and Post. PhilaU went 3-1 on the week.
