PhilaU AD Tom Shirley Named to NCAA Womens Basketball Committee
Philadelphia, PA- Philadelphia University Athletic Director/ Women's Basketball Head Coach Tom Shirley has been selected to serve a four-year term on the NCAA Women’s Basketball Rules Committee. This committee is an association-wide group that creates and monitors the rules of women’s college basketball for all divisions (NCAA I, II and III) both independently and in conjunction with the Men’s Basketball Rules Committee.
“Tom Shirley brings a unique combination to the NCAA Women’s Basketball rules committee as both athletic director and current women’s basketball coach,” said Amy Backus, the Chair of the Women’s Basketball Rules Committee. “His insight from both perspectives will compliment the strong collection of individuals presently representing the basketball community.”
This will be Shirley’s first time on an association-wide committee. He has previously served terms as the President of the CACC Athletic Directors, the NCAA Management Council (the highest ranking committee in NCAA DII), the NCAA Championships Committee, the NCAA Membership Committee and NCAA National Postgraduate Scholarship Committee. He has also been on various NCAA DII Regional Selection committees.
Shirley’s Women’s Basketball Rules Committee term will begin September 01, 2010, and continue through September 01, 2014.
