Hello & Goodbye: Athletic Department Staff Changes for 2011
Philadelphia, PA- Two much-loved Philadelphia University Athletic Department employees will be leaving their positions today to head to new opportunities, while two new staff members join the team.
PhilaU Athletic administrative assistant Elaine
Fischer, a staple at the University for since 2003, is
retiring.
“After spending over eight years at PhilaU, I’ll fondly
look back upon the friends I’ve made and the wonderful
experiences I’ve had here,” said Fischer.
“I’d like to thank Athletic Director Tom Shirley for
giving me the opportunity to let me finish out my career with
talented administrators, coaches and student-athletes.
I’m looking forward to spending more time with my family and
friends and beginning this next chapter in my life.”
Director of Fitness & Wellness Rhonda Davis is
headed to the Georgetown University Law School fitness center to
take over the position of general manager. Davis has been at
PhilaU since 2008.
“Working at PhilaU was an amazing opportunity that I felt
passionately about,” said Davis. “Looking back,
time went by so fast- I enjoyed every minute of it. I will
miss everyone.”
Joining the PhilaU Athletics team will be new administrative assistant Rose Schmitt’10, M’11 and new assistant women’s basketball coach Jen McCarthy. Schmitt was a field hockey student-athlete for the Rams before the program was dropped in 2009. She has been involved with the athletic department for five years as a field hockey player, student worker and graduate intern. McCarthy joins the Rams after serving as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Delaware Valley College since 2006. She also played basketball at DVC and holds a B.S. in sports management and a B.S. in business education from the college.
