Beloved Ram Fan, Blue (Dan Coursen) Passes Away
Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University Athletic Department is saddened to announce the passing of long-time Ram fan Dan Coursen (known as ‘Blue’ on campus) over this past weekend. Coursen, 64, entered the hospital on Saturday night wearing a PhilaU t-shirt.
The sidelines at Ravenhill Field will be a little bit quieter this fall as Coursen was a staple at PhilaU athletic events, especially men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s basketball and baseball contests. His patriotic rendition of the national anthem was usually heard above the din of the department’s audio system, to the delight of many a spectator. It didn’t matter who the Rams were playing when Coursen was in attendance, he had just one team when he walked onto PhilaU’s campus.
The viewing for Coursen will be held on Thursday (8/5) at 9:30 a.m. and the funeral will follow at 11 a.m. at his home church St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Germantown. Coursen’s family, led by Kathy (Coursen) Hickman wanted to thank the PhilaU community for always accepting Blue and treating him as a Ram.
