CACC Awards: Seven Student-Athletes Honored

Philadelphia, PA- Seven Philadelphia University student-athletes were honored by the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) for weekly awards.  The list is highlighted by two cross country runners who led their squads to their respective Wilmington Invitational titles.

Junior runner Sarah Simonetti (Perkasie, PA/ Pennridge) was named CACC ‘Player of the Week’ after beating her own course record by 35 seconds at Carousel Park to give PhilaU the overall team championship and win the individual title.  Rookie Noah Hutton (Plyesville, MD/ North Harford) earned CACC ‘Rookie of the Week’ after finishing in second place at the WilmU Invite to help the Rams to the team title. 

Two other players earned CACC ‘Rookie of the Week’ honors, volleyball outside-hitter Leanna Lillge, who earns her second straight honor, as she averaged 3.86 kills and 5.14 digs ina 1-1 week.  Women’s tennis rookie Isabella Espinosa (Quit, Ecuador/ Colegio Americano) also took the award, after recording wins vs. Kutztown and Cabrini at #1 singles and #1 doubles. 

Players earning CACC ‘Honorable Mention’ included: women’s tennis junior Brittany Villa (Logan, NJ/ Kingsway Regional), men’s soccer junior midfielder Ryan Purnell (Hamilton, Bermuda/ Berkley Institute) and men’s junior runner Tyler Dye (Hanover, PA/ Delone Catholic).
