Cross country seniors recognized by Philadelphia University department of athletics

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Philadelphia University department of athletics recognized the seven seniors on the men’s and women’s cross country teams Wednesday afternoon.

Matthew McDevitt, Richard Pena and Tyler Dye from the men’s team and Gabrielle Dei Tos, Anjelica DiNucci, Christina Pina Chila and Sarah Simonetti from the women’s squad each received a glass plaque from Philadelphia University director of athletics Tom Shirley and cross country head coach Dave Thomas.

Shirley opened the ceremony with remarks about the rise of the cross country programs, which include three Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) championships for the women (2008, ’09, ’10) and the 2009 CACC title for the men. Then Thomas addressed the teams specifically focusing on each of the seven senior runners.

The cross country teams will compete at the CACC championship meet Sunday, Oct. 23 at Belmont Plateau. The women’s race is at 10 a.m. and the men’s race starts at 11 a.m.
