Weekly Ram Report
Head Coach Herb Magee and his Philadelphia
University basketball team went 2-1 last
week including a key conference road victory to open the stretch.
Magee's squad began
the three-game set with a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference
(CACC) battle at
Bloomfield College on January 7th. Against the Deacons, sophomore
point guard Russell
Frederick poured in a career-high 22 points as the Rams earned an
81-56 victory. Fellow
sophomore Malcolm Ingram also played a big role, adding 18 points
and seven boards in
the league triumph. Back at home for their next outing, the Rams
fell to Kutztown
University 81-75 on January 9th at the Gallagher Center. Junior
guard Mike Dunn posted
a team-high 19 points while senior forward Jason Hickenbottom added
17 points to a
balanced offensive attack. Finally, the Rams capped week with a
75-65 victory over the
University of the District of Columbia on January 12th, avenging a
loss to the Firebirds
earlier this season on the road. Hickenbottom scored 15 of his
game-high 21 points in the
second frame while Ingram added 19 points before fouling out in the
closing seconds.
Now 7-10 overall and 4-0 in the CACC, the Rams will be back at home
for their next
outing, hosting former Rams' standout player and current Chestnut
Hill College coach
Jesse Balcer and his team on Tuesday, January 15th.
Here is a look at how the rest of the varsity athletic teams fared this past week:
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (7-5 overall, 1-3
CACC) - The Philadelphia University
women's basketball team split a pair of contests last week,
dropping their opener on the
road before taking an impressive home decision. Head Coach Tom
Shirley and his team
got the week started at Bloomfield College on January 7th.
Unfortunately, it was the
Deacons that proved victorious, taking their second decision from
the Lady Rams on the
season, this one by a 64-57 margin. Freshman forward Kate Brennan
led all scorers with
20 points in the setback while sophomore center Jessica Romano
added 18 points and ten
rebounds. Shirley's team bounced back, however, registering a 95-65
win over West
Chester University on January 9th at home. Romano and senior
forward Ashley Webster
scored 20 points apiece to lead all scorers with Webster also
hauling down a game-high
18 rebounds. Junior guard Amanda Brennan added 19 points including
four of five threepoint
attempts as the Lady Rams shot a blistering 58.6% (31-55) from the
field in the
win. Up next for Philadelphia University will be Chestnut Hill
College on Tuesday,
January 15th, as former Lady Rams' star and current Griffins' coach
Jackie deMarteleire
returns to campus.
