Weekly Ram Report

The Philadelphia University men's basketball team continued its strong play last week, posting a perfect 2-0 mark to remain undefeated in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC).  In their opener for the week, the Rams squared off against former Assistant Coach Chuck Hammond, now the Head Coach at Goldey-Beacom College, on January 29th.  Sophomore forward Malcolm Ingram (pictured), continuing to establish himself as one of the top players in the CACC, tied a career-high with 26 points to go along with nine rebounds, helping Head Coach Herb Magee's squad to the 64-55 victory.  Fellow sophomore Russell Frederick added 13 points while junior guard Mike Dunn finished with ten points in the triumph.  For their next outing, the Rams took to the road on February 2nd, playing at Wilmington University, where they came away with an 81-78 victory in triple overtime.  Ingram and Frederick came up big again, finishing with 32 points and 24 points, respectively, marking career-highs for the super sophomores.  A winner of six straight games, Philadelphia University improved to 12-10 overall with the pair of victories including a perfect 9-0 record in conference play.  Up next for the Rams will be Adelphi University at home on Tuesday, February 5th, with tip-off with the Panthers slated for 7:00 P.M.

Here is a look at how the rest of the varsity athletic teams fared this past week:

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (12-7 overall, 5-5 CACC) - Head Coach Tom Shirley and his Philadelphia University women's basketball team put together a 1-1 record last week, winning at home before falling in a road contest.  The Lady Rams got things started with a 65-58 win over Goldey-Beacom College at home on January 29th.  Sophomore center Jessica Romano led the way with 18 points in the win while senior forward Ashley Webster registered yet another double-double, finishing with 17 points and 14 boards.  Junior guard Amanda Brennan also found double-figures in the triumph, adding 16 points with four three-point field goals.  In their next outing, the Lady Rams took a three-game winning streak into a conference contest at Wilmington University on February 2nd.  Romano tallied 18 points once again for Shirley, but the Lady Rams were unable to come up with the win, falling 67-60 in overtime.  Freshman Taylor Magnus came off the bench to add 15 points for Philadelphia University while Webster totaled 14 points and 15 rebounds.  The Lady Rams will be off until Thursday, February 7th, when they host the University of the Sciences in a key league showdown at the Gallagher Center.
