Weekly Ram Report

The Philadelphia University women's basketball team put together a perfect 3-0 mark last week, securing third place in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South Division in the process.  The Lady Rams kicked the week off with a thrilling 73-71 win at city rival University of the Sciences on February 19th, as junior guard Amanda Brennan hit a pair of game-winning free throws with 15.7 seconds remaining to snap a 71-71 tie.  Brennan finished the contest with 16 points while senior forward Ashley Webster and sophomore center Jessica Romano finished with 21 points and 20 points, respectively.  In its next outing, Philadelphia University returned home to meet league foe Georgian Court University on February 21st.  Brennan led the way in the 79-50 win over the Lions with 19 points while Webster turned in the type of performance that will define her career -- 17 points, a career-high 19 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals.  Head Coach Tom Shirley's squad wrapped up the week with a 75-59 triumph over visiting Caldwell College on February 23rd.  Romano led the way with 15 points and Brennan added 14 points while Webster, playing her final regular-season home contest, added 12 points and ten rebounds for the double-double.  Winners of five straight, the Lady Rams are now 18-8 overall and 11-6 in the conference and will close out the 2007-08 regular season at Goldey-Beacom College on Wednesday, February 27th, before meeting Wilmington University in the quarterfinals of the 2008 CACC Tournament on Saturday, March 1st, on the road.

Here is a look at how the rest of the varsity athletic teams fared this past week:

MEN'S BASKETBALL (18-11 overall, 15-0 CACC) - Head Coach Herb Magee and his Philadelphia University men's basketball team went a perfect 2-0 last week, remaining undefeated in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) while securing home-court for the duration of the upcoming conference tournament.  In their opener for the week, the Rams registered a 57-52 win at the University of the Sciences on February 19th.  Sophomore forward Malcolm Ingram poured in 23 points and collected ten rebounds for his team-high 11th double-double of the season in the victory while fellow sophomore Russell Frederick added 20 points and three steals.  Next up for the Rams was Caldwell College on February 23rd at home and this time, it was Frederick's turn to lead the Rams, this time a 72-54 triumph.  The 6-1 native of Joppa, Md., poured in a career-high 25 points and dished out five assists to pace Philadelphia University while senior forward Jason Hickenbottom added 20 points, eight rebounds and four assists before a Senior Day crowd at the Gallagher Center.  With the win over the Cougars, the Rams have now won six straight and 12 of their past 13 and will close the regular-season at Goldey-Beacom College on Wednesday, February 27th.
