SAAC

Dear Fellow Student-Athlete,

I would like to take this time to introduce myself and Philadelphia University's Student-Athlete

Advisory Committee or SAAC, which is now in it's sixth year at Philadelphia University. SAAC is an NCAA program designed to help give you, the student-athlete a voice on issues that affect you and to give you a chance to make a difference on your campus and in your community.

The committee is comprised of individual members of each our sixteen varsity sports here at Philadelphia University. SAAC representatives were selected by each head coach in coordination with the Director of Athletics, Tom Shirley. Lynn Tubman, the Associate Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Advisor is in her fourth year as the SAAC advisor.

The main focus of SAAC is to provide input on the rules, regulations and policies that affect the lives of Student-Athlete's on NCAA member institution campuses. This is accomplished by monthly meetings held on campus throughout the year. In addition, Philadelphia University is also invited on an annual basis to attend Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) meetings held at member institutions.

But SAAC also exists to give all of us a chance to give something back to the University and our surrounding community. SAAC is devoted to working both on campus and off campus to assist our fellow students, student athletes, and neighbors in the community. SAAC activities in the past have included,: Fall Sports Kick-Off, Hurricane Katrina Relief Fundraisers, Homecoming Sports Memorabilia Sale, a Dinning Etiquette Program, Ram Madness, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Dodgeball and Penny War Fundraisers, and a Grade School Night at the Men's and Women's basketball games.

As we enter the 2007-2008 school year, our theme for SAAC will be "Expanding With Our Campus And Our Community, One Athlete At A Time". In my second year as President of SAAC, it is my goal with the help of my fellow SAAC representatives to continue the success of the program and help expand SAAC's presence on campus and in our community. I hope you will continue to access our website for upcoming events and news and feel free to send me or your SAAC representative your thoughts and ideas on any issues or activities.
