Philadelphia University places conference-high eight student-athletes on CACC Winter All-Academic Team

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Philadelphia University led the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) with eight student-athletes earning a spot on the 2015-16 CACC Winter All-Academic Team, released by the conference office on Thursday.

The women's basketball team had five players named to the All-Academic team, while men's basketball had three honorees.

On the women's side, College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 1 Team selection Tori Arnao (Newtown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) was named to the CACC Winter All-Academic Team for the third straight season. Jackie McCarron (Harleysville, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) made her second straight all-academic team, while Rachel Day (Horsham, Pa./Archbishop Wood), Kelsey Jones (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Mount Saint Joseph Academy), and Erin Rafter (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) are all first-time honorees.

CoSIDA Academic All-American First Team player Peter Alexis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) leads the men with his third CACC All-Academic Team accolade. Mike Louden (Glen Mills, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) is on the team for the second straight year and Winston Folkes (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg North) made his first all-academic team.

Louden and Jones earned the CACC Top XV Award in their respective sport for having the highest grade-point average in the CACC Tournament semifinal round.

To date, Philadelphia University has had 30 student-athletes named to a CACC All-Academic Team this year.

To be named to the Winter All-Academic Team, an athlete must have participated in a CACC Championship sport in the winter. They must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, have been a student-athlete at their current school for at least two semesters, and achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher through the fall semester of 2015.
