Rams Collect 11 Hits, Register 5-4 Win over Post University

The Philadelphia University baseball team pounded out 11 hits, taking a 5-4 victory from Post University at home on Friday afternoon.  With the triumph, the Rams improve to 3-13 overall and even their mark in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) at 2-2.

The Rams took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when sophomore second baseman Tyler Mentzer connected on his second homerun in as many days.  Head Coach Mark Heineman's team extended the lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth when junior outfielder Dan Ellmer drove in senior shortstop Tyler Mentzer with an RBI double.

Philadelphia University pushed the lead to 4-0 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning with the big blow coming off the bat of junior designated hitter Kyle Noon, who picked up an RBI triple.

The visiting Eagles cut into the lead in the top of the sixth inning with a pair of runs, ultimately tying the contest at 4-4 in the top of the seventh inning.  However, the Rams scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning when senior outfielder JungMin Lee (pictured) collected an RBI single that scored freshman third baseman Anthony DiFrancesco with one out.  Junior right hander Rob Fisher closed the door on the Eagles in the ninth inning, striking out the side in earning the win in relief.

Heineman and his team will be back in action on Sunday, April 6th, hosting Wilmington University in a key CACC doubleheader at Alumni Field.
