Sophomore Second Baseman Tyler Mentzer Named Regional All-American

Sophomore second baseman Tyler Mentzer was named a regional All-American by two separate organizations on Monday, capping a stellar season by the Delone (Pa.) Catholic High product.  A two-year starter for the Rams, Mentzer was named American Baseball Coaches of America(ABCA)/Rawlings second-team All-Northeast Region while also earning second-team All-Northeast Region accolades from Daktronics.

A starter in 41 of 42 games, Mentzer led the team in hitting at .360 while his 58 hits and 42 RBI also topped the Rams.  He also led the team in doubles (13), triples (3) and homeruns (4) while posting a team-best .553 slugging percentage.  For his efforts, Mentzer was tabbed Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) first-team All-Conference at second base, a year after being named CACC second-team All-Conference at a relief pitcher as a true freshman.

Mentzer was the lone player selected to the All-Region teams from Philadelphia University, which finished the year with a 22-22 overall record.  The Rams earned the top seed in the 2008 CACC Tournament, falling one win shy of the championship game.
