PhilaU Baseball Tabbed 2nd in CACC Preseason Poll

Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University baseball team has been picked to finish second in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC), as voted on by the conference's head coaches and released today.       

The Rams finished last season with a 22-22, 19-8 CACC record and took home the CACC regular-season championship.  In the 2008 CACC Tournament, the Rams pounded Felician 13-0 in their first game, but fell 2-0 to Caldwell and 7-1 to Dominican to bow out of the double-elimination competition. 

Philadelphia will be led by fourth-year head coach Mark Heineman, who was voted CACC Coach of the Year last season. Returning for the Rams will be first team All-CACC second baseman Tyler Mentzer and second team right-hander Kyle Noonan. The Rams also welcome back sophomore right-hander Jared Farbman, who led the team in both wins (6) and ERA (2.89) en route to All-CACC honorable mention status.

The PhilaU squad kicks off the 2009 regular season this week at Georgia State College & University (2/13, 6 p.m.)- a team that received preseason votes in the Collegiate Baseball preseason national rankings.  The team will also face preseason-ranked #5 Columbus State three times over two days (2/14- 1 & 4 p.m, and 2/15- 1 p.m.).
