Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University Rams (10-2-, 7-6 CACC) dropped a CACC double-header 10-8, 6-2 to the #1 regionally ranked Dominican College Chargers today at Alumni Field.
In a high scoring game one, the Chargers struck first in the top of the second, but the Rams responded with six unanswered runs over the next two innings. Leading the charge was senior centerfielder Dan Ellmer (Trenton, NJ/Nottingham) and junior right fielder Mike Anderson (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick). Ellmer was 2-for-3 with two RBI's and Anderson was 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Dominican took over the next couple innings, scoring eight runs over the next five innings, taking a 9-6 lead. The Rams cut the lead to 9-8 in the bottom of the 8th on a two-run homerun by senior catcher Jason Hartley (Levittown, PA/Neshaminy). Dominican added another run in the top of the 9th to take a two run lead at 10-8. The Rams were unable to score in the 9th inning and dropped game one 10-8.
In game two, the Rams struck first on an RBI double by Mike Anderson that scored Dan Ellmer. PhilaU added another run in the 3rd inning when Anderson drove in junior shortstop Tyler Mentzer (Gettysburg, PA/Delone Catholic).
Dominican scored a run in the 4th to cut the lead to 2-1. The Chargers took a 6-2 lead in the 7th inning on a several base hits and one PhilaU error. The Rams could not muster any offense in the bottom of the 7th inning and the game ending in a 6-2 Dominican victory.
Freshman right hander Garrett Buehler (Harleysville, PA/Souderton) pitched well for the Rams, allowing no earned runs and surrendered only three hits and struck out four in six innings pitched.
Baseball action continues tomorrow, April 19th vs. Caldwell College. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
