Mentzer Named Daktronics 1st Team All-East Region
PHILADELPHIA- PA. – Assumption College senior outfielder Derek Migrants and Franklin Pierce University junior pitcher Jose Macias have been named the East Region Player of the Year and East Region Pitcher of Year respectively as the 2010 Daktronics Baseball All-East Region team has been announced.
Migrants, the 2010 Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference selection, started all 48 games for Assumption this season as he led the conference in hitting through the regular season with a .425 batting average. Migrants collected 79 hits throughout the year and in the process became the all-time leader in Greyhound history with 268 career hits. Migrants finished the season with a slugging percentage of .640, an on-base percentage of .469 to go along with 18 doubles and 44 runs scored. The Ayers, Massachusetts native is a four-time All-Conference selection, earning third team honors as a freshman, second team as a sophomore and first team the past two seasons.
Macias, the 2010 Northeast-10 Conference Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-Conference selection, led the Ravens pitching staff this year compiling an impressive 8-0 record and a 0.93 earned run average during the regular season. The Bronx, New York native has surrendered only 35 hits, 11 runs (7 ER), struck out 95 batters in 68 innings of work. Macias ranks seventh overall in Division II in total strikeouts and is third in hits per nine innings. His 0.93 earned run average is the second lowest amongst all Division II pitchers. Macias also threw a no-hitter vs. St. Michael’s in Florida this season on March 15, striking out 12 batters in the process.
Rounding out the 2010 Daktronics East Region First Team are Tommy Maloney of Dominican (first base), T.J. Greig of Molloy (second base); Derek Ingui of Franklin Pierce (third base); Tyler Mentzer of Philadelphia (shortstop); Mike Godwin (catcher), Bryan Short (utility) and Joe Harris (starting pitcher) of Wilmington; Zack Graczyk of C.W. Post (outfield); Ray Keelan of Caldwell (outfield), Robert Kelly of St. Anselm (catcher), Gabriel Duran of Dowling (starting pitcher); Chris Zbin of Southern Connecticut (starting pitcher) and Mitch Rossi of New Haven (relief pitcher)
The second team consists of: Adelphi’s Keith Couch (SP); Bentley’s Charlie Pagliarulo (2B); Dominican’s Dave Bartuska (SP); Dowling’s Frank Intagliata (OF); Felician’s Phil Messerian (UT); Franklin Pierce’s Mike Dowd (C), Phil Hendricks (OF), Mike Munoz (OF), and Mike Adams (SP); Massachusetts-Lowell’s Cam Kneeland (3B); Merrimack’s Ryan O’Rourke (SP); Molloy’s Robert LaRusso (1B) ; Southern Connecticut State’s Ryan Geffert (SS); Stonehill’s Angelo Bruno (1B) and Wilmington’s Brian Miller (DH) and J.T. Gregory (RP).
The 2010 Daktronics All-East Region First Team includes several that earned major honors from their respective leagues. In addition to Migrants (Northeast-10 Player of the Year) and Macias (Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Year), C.W. Post outfielder Zack Graczyk and Dowling pitcher Gabriel Duran were named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Player of the Year and ECC Pitcher of the Year respectively. Philadelphia’s Tyler Mentzer and Wilmington’s Joe Harris were named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Year and CACC Pitcher of the Year.
