Honors Pour in for PhilaU Shortstop Tyler Mentzer
Philadelphia, PA- The honors continue to roll in for Philadelphia University senior shortstop Tyler Mentzer, who was recently named an American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA DII East All-Region 2nd Team selection and a National Collegiate Baseball Writers’ Association (NCBWA) All-East Region 1st Team pick.
Mentzer, a 5-11 senior shortstop from Gettysburg, Pa., led the Central Atantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) with a .404 batting average and was the only hitter above .400 at the end of the regular-season. He also led the conference in numerous other categories, including on-base percentage (.521), slugging percentage (.746), runs scored (39) and home runs with seven. Additionally, he ranked second in total bases (85) and fourth in runs batted in (34). Mentzer is a four-time member of the CACC All-Conference team.
He was also named to the Daktronics All-East 1st Team and was tabbed CACC ‘Player of the Year’ this season.
