NEW CASTLE, Del. – The Philadelphia University baseball team was shutout by Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Wilmington (Del.), 3-0, in the first round of the Bill Giles Classic.
Rams' pitcher Jeff Bohus was solid in the defeat. He went the distance, scattering eight hits and allowing just one earned run. Bohus struck out two batters.
Second baseman Kyle DeGennaro had the lone Philadelphia (5-18, 0-3 CACC) hit, a single in the top of the fourth.
Wilmington (12-7, 3-2 CACC) scored a pair of runs in the fourth on a two-run home run by first baseman Adam Soley.
The Wildcats added an additional run in the sixth on second baseman Brendan Fallers' RBI single.
Left fielder Jordan Johnson had three hits for Wilmington, while Soley had two.
Mike Godwin took the win after striking out six in seven innings. Joran Oncay earned the save with a perfect ninth.
Philadelphia remains on the road to take on Concordia (N.Y.) in a CACC twinbill on Saturday, March 24 starting at noon.
