Field Hockey Wins in Dramatic Penalty Stroke Off

The Lady Rams field hockey team notched their second win of the
season as they downed the Knights of Neumann College by a final
score of 4-3 on Alumni Field.
The tight contest was decided by a penalty stroke off, as the game
remained tied at 3-3 after 70 minutes of regulation play; and again
after two scoreless 15-minute sudden-death overtime periods.
The win snaps a five-game losing streak for the Lady Rams and ups
their season record to 2-7. The defeat drops the Knights to
3-4.
The game was tied 1-1 at halftime on goals by
sophomore Lauren Piontkowski for the Lady Rams and
sophomore Lauren Hood for the Knights. Hood
added her second tally for Neumann with 19 minutes left in
regulation; but 90 seconds later, Lady Rams' sophomore Leah
Arthur tied the game with her second goal of the year,
making it 2-2. Then, less than three minutes later,
Piontkowski netted the go-ahead score-her second of the game and
fifth of the season-to give Philadelphia University a 3-2
advantage. But Neumann equalized a scant 40 seconds later; as
Hood came through with a hat-trick for the Knights-her eighth goal
of the year.
In the penalty stroke off, senior tri-captain goalkeeper
Jess Snyder stood tall for the Lady Rams, turning
aside all five Neumann attempts. Meanwhile, sophomore
Melissa Hess (shown)led off for Philadelphia
University with the lone score of their five attempts, resulting in
a 1-0 stroke-off win; as well as the 4-3 winning margin for the
game.
