Field Hockey 2008 Season Wrapup
The Philadelphia University field hockey team wrapped up the 2008 season on a three-game winning streak before falling to the #1 nationally-ranked Bloomsburg University squad. The team finished with a 6-11 record. The following are highlights of key contributors to the 2008 Lady Ram season:
Senior forward Brooke Woodland was the hand's down leader on this PhilaU team, leading the team in nearly every offensive category including goals (15), points (32) and game-winning goals (2). Woodland's 15 scores tied the school record for single-season goals, which she set in her junior year. Her post-season accolades included the National Field Hockey Coaches' Association (NFHCA) South All-Star Team, as well as the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team. She finished the season ranked nationally in the NCAA Division II rankings as fourth in goals per game (1.07) and eighth for points in a season (32), respectively.
Senior goalie Anne Strobel held her own in net, making 127 saves and holding a .760 save percentage. She held NCAA Division II national rankings in three categories including: sixth in saves per game (7.82), 10th in save percentage (.760) and 20th in goals against average (2.99). She made 14 starts for the Lady Rams and the PhilaU team held a 6-9 record with Strobel in goal.
Sophomore Megan Stefanides tied for second on the team in scoring with nine points (four goals, one assist).
Sophomore Lynette Buck also notched nine points this season, tied for second on the team with Stefanides. Buck put in four goals and added an assist. She held a team-high .267 shot percentage and started in 14 games for the Lady Rams.
