Head Coach Christy Knab
Head Coach Christy Knab concluded her second season as the Head Field Hockey Coach at Philadelphia University in 2006 with an 8-10 overall record. A four-year letterwinner as a player for the Lady Rams from 1999 through 2002, Knab succeeded former coach Denise Junkerman, who resigned following the 2004 campaign to pursue her secondary education administration certification.
In her first season guiding the program, Knab saw her Lady Rams
post an 8-12-0 overall mark, including a 6-3 performance in the
team's final nine games. Highlighting the campaign were a
pair of wins over traditional NCAA Division II powers Mercyhurst
College and Bellarmine (Ky.) University, along with the individual
play of sophomore standout Brooke Woodland.
Woodland registered the third-best single-season point total in
school history in 2005 with 27 points.
The 2006 campaign saw Knab's Lady Rams finish with an 8-10 overall
record, highlighted once again by the play of Woodland. As a
junior, Woodland set nearly every school record offensively,
including single-season goals (15) and point (37), as well as
career goals (37) and points (86). In addition, she also set
a school record with four goals and nine points in a season-opening
win over Immaculata University. As a team, Knab saw her squad
turn some outstanding performances, particularly a two-game winning
streak to close the season as well as a hard-fought 3-1 loss to
top-ranked and eventual national champion Bloomsburg
University.
A native of Sewell, N.J., Knab previously served as the program's
assistant coach for two seasons after a stellar playing career at
the University. In her four seasons as a player, including two
under Junkerman's guidance, Knab proved to be one of the team's top
defensive players, starting 51 of 68 career contests. This included
the 2002 campaign, when Knab led a defensive corps that registered
a school-record 11 victories.
