CSTV to Televise Men's Basketball Game Against Holy Family on February 9th

Philadelphia University's men's basketball team will be hitting the airwaves of CSTV (College Sports TV) at 12 noon on Saturday, February 9th, 2008 when they host Holy Family in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) matchup at the Athletic & Recreation Center, in an announcement made today by Philadelphia University Director of Athletics and Head Women's Basketball Coach Tom Shirley.

In order to facilitate the telecast, the Tigers and Rams have agreed to swap home-and-home men's and women's basketball doubleheaders this season.  Therefore, on Monday, December 3rd, 2007, the teams will now meet at Holy Family, with the women's tipoff slated for 6:00 p.m., followed by the men at 8:00 p.m.  Then, on Saturday, February 9th, 2008, the men's game will precede the women's contest, which follows at 2:30 p.m.

Shirley expressed delight and gratitude in making the announcement of CSTV's telecast, "First, I'd like to thank my colleague Sandra Michael at Holy Family for agreeing to the date switch, and I'd also like to thank CBS and CSTV for choosing our men's game with Holy Family as one of their showcase NCAA Division II broadcasts in the upcoming season.  While Philadelphia University basketball has appeared on regional television in the past, this is the first time that our program will be featured on a national broadcast, which includes the ability to air two public service announcements spotlighting the University.  It is, quite simply, a wonderful opportunity for us, for Holy Family, for the CACC and all of NCAA Division II athletics.  One thing that makes me very proud is the fact that we can display our outstanding new facility, the Athletic & Recreation Center, on a national scale.  We here at Philadelphia University and our area rivals such as Holy Family already know how wonderful a place it truly is, and now we'll have the chance to spread the word to an even greater audience, just like we did with RBK U this past summer."

The 2007-‘08 men's basketball season marks Head Coach Herb Magee's 41st at the helm at Philadelphia University.  Magee is one of the all-time winningest coaches in NCAA history with an 833-328 career record, good for a .717 winning percentage.  Currently, Magee is ranked fifth all-time in NCAA coaching victories for all divisions, while topping the list for all-time Division II coaching wins.

Returning starters for Coach Magee's Rams are junior guard Mike Dunn, senior forward Jason Hickenbottom and sophomore guard Russell Frederick.  The trio combined to average over 34 points per game during the 2006-07 season, in which the Rams finished at 20-10 overall, 14-6 in CACC competition and a sparkling 14-2 at home in their first season of play at the Athletic & Recreation Center.

The season will begin on Friday, October 12th when the 2007-‘08 Rams are introduced to the community at Ram Madness.  The first game of the regular season is set for Friday, November 9th at 5:00 p.m. against Assumption College as part of the Disney Men's Tip-Off Classic at the Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla.
