PHILADELPHIA UNIVERSITY MENS BASKETBALL TRIO, MAGEE HONORED BY CACC

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Three members of the Philadelphia University men's basketball team were named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) All-Conference team while Rams' Head Coach Herb Magee was selected as the conference Coach of the Year, in voting done by the league's coaches. Sophomore forward Malcolm Ingram, senior forward Jason Hickenbottom and sophomore point guard Russell Frederick, along with Magee, were recognized for their respective efforts in leading the Rams to an 18-11 overall record including a perfect 15-0 mark in the CACC.
Ingram was the Rams' lone first-team representative and was the only sophomore selected to the first or second teams. Through 29 games this season, the Solebury (Pa.) Prep product leads the Rams in scoring and rebounding with 17.1 ppg and 8.3 rpg, respectively, helping the Rams to the top seed for the upcoming conference tournament. The third-leading scorer in the league, Ingram also ranks third in the CACC in field goal percentage, converting 51.0% of his attempts from the floor while his 3.24 offensive rebounds per game lead the conference. In addition, Ingram has also collected a team-high 11 double-doubles this season.
Hickenbottom and Frederick were third-team selections for the Rams with Hickenbottom earning All-Conference accolades for the second consecutive season. In his second year with the Rams after transferring from NCAA Division I Central Connecticut State University, Hickenbottom ranks second on the team in scoring with 12.9 ppg to go along with 6.4 rpg, which also ranks second. A former standout at nearby Simon Gratz High, Hickenbottom also ranks second on the team in assists with 85 while his 44 three-point field goals, a career-high, ranks third.
Rounding out the trio of All-Conference performers is Frederick, a standout second-year starter at guard. Frederick is averaging a career-high 11.2 ppg while also dishing out a league-high 148 assists. The Joppa, Md., native has also connected on a career-high 46 three-point field goals to rank second on the team while his 44 steals are a team-high and his 4.3 rpg represent a career-high for the Rams.
Magee, meanwhile, was named the 2008 CACC Coach of the Year, as voted on by his peers. The all-time winningest coach in NCAA Division II history with 851 wins, Magee has led the Rams to 18 victories despite the team opening the season with an 0-5 record. This includes a current six-game winning streak for the Rams, who have won 12 of their past 13. Currently, Magee's team is ranked sixth in the latest NCAA Division II Northeast Region poll with the top eight teams earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament. Magee has accomplished this despite the graduation of 2007 NCAA Division II Player of the Year Christian Burns last spring.
