Ingram, Frederick Leads Rams to Thrilling Triple-Overtime Victory

Sophomores Malcolm Ingram and Russell Frederick scored career-highs, leading the Philadelphia University men's basketball team to an 81-78 triple-overtime victory at Wilmington University on Saturday afternoon in New Castle, Del. Ingram finished the contest with 32 points while Frederick poured in 24 points for the Rams, who earn their sixth consecutive win and improve to 12-10 overall and a perfect 9-0 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC).
In addition to Ingram and Frederick, junior guard Mike Dunn
found double-figures in scoring, collecting 11 points for the
Rams while senior guard Maurice Furrowh led a balanced Wildcats'
offensive attack with 20 points.
Head Coach Herb Magee's squad jumped out to a 21-9 lead midway
through the first half as sophomore forward Mike Yocum capped the
run with a jumper. Wilmington was able to trim the lead to
eight points on several occasions, but still found itself down by
11 points at 35-24 after 20 minutes of action.
In the second half, Dunn opened with a three-point field goal to
extend the lead to 14 points, but over the next ten minutes, the
Wildcats would go on a 20-9 run to pull within 47-44 with 9:12 to
play. The Rams had a chance to put the contest away at the
end of regulation, holding a three-point lead with 46 seconds
remaining, but sophomore guard/forward Dominique Barron hit a
three-point field goal with eight seconds left to tie the contest
at 60-60 and Ingram's three-point attempt to win the game missed
the mark.
In the first extra session, the Rams took a four-point lead with
just over two minutes left on a pair of free-throws by Yocum, but
once again, the Wildcats were able to close the gap when junior
forward Antonio Sherrod connected on a pair of clutch free throws
that sent the game into a second overtime.
Wilmington took the early advantage in the second overtime, scoring
the first four points including a jumper by junior guard Mike
Shipman. Sophomore guard/forward Marcus Lemon ended the run
and Ingram was ultimately able to send the game to a third overtime
by hitting one of two free throws with 20 seconds left.
Frederick gave the Rams the lead for good in the third overtie with
just under two minutes remaining with a three-point field goal and
Lemon added to the lead with a pair of free-throws on the Rams'
next possession. However, the contest wasn't decided until
Barron's three-point attempt with one second left went astray,
giving the Rams' the hard-earned win on the road.
