PhilaU Nets Seventh Straight Win 60-56 over District of Columbia
Washington, D.C.- Junior guard Russell Frederick (Baltimore, MD/ Calvert Hall) led all scorers with 22 points to help his Philadelphia University Rams (15-3, 7-0 CACC) to a 60-56 non-conference win over the University of the District of Columbia (7-12) on Wednesday night. Frederick's game-high was his third consecutive 20+ point game.
The Ram's took their first lead of the game at 16:06 in the first half, as Frederick sunk the first of five three's to give his squad a 5-4 advantage. Junior forward Malcolm Ingram (Philadelphia, PA/ Solebury Prep) extended the PhilaU lead to 25-12 at 4:42 in the first, their largest lead of the half. Ingram finished the night with 15 points and four rebounds.
PhilaU led 27-20 at halftime.
The Firebirds mounted a come-back in the second half as they went on a 10-0 run that peaked at 8:25 with a David Burton free throw to come within two (42-40) and a layup by Tim Ellison tied it at 48 apiece at 4:44. Burton and Ellison each had 17 points to lead UDC.
Ram senior guard Mike Dunn (Harrisburg, PA/ Central Dauphin) responded with a trey on the next play to give PhilaU back the lead- which they would secure for the final four minutes. Dunn had 10 points and four rebounds in the contest, while junior forward Mike Yocum (Dresher, PA/ Episcopal Academy) added nine points and eight boards for the Rams.
The Rams return to action on Saturday, January 31st in a CACC home match-up vs. Post University at 4:00 p.m. in the Gallagher Athletic Center.
