Philadelphia, PA- Student-athletes from Philadelphia University participated in the campus-wide community service event ‘Day of Service' today to kick off the Presidential Inauguration this week of Dr. Stephen Spinelli.

Hundreds of athletes teamed up with various community organizations across Philadelphia to lend a hand.

"Events like today encourage our student-athletes to get out into the community and make a difference," said Philadelphia University Associate Director of Athletics Lynn Tubman.

Some of the places student-athletes served were: Saint Helena School, the Whitemarsh boathouse, Kendrick Recreation Center, Hillside Recreation Center, Northern Home, Penrose playground, City Year baseball fields, Roberts Elementary and Student-Run Philly Style Running (SRPS).

Activities were diverse as the women's basketball team participated in a walk-a-thon at Saint Helena, the baseball team worked with City Year to refurbish several baseball diamonds, and the cross country teams gave a running clinic for inner-city youth- to name just a few events.

"We had a great time today, it would be fun to come back and play with the kids again," said junior softball player Kelly Rauco after organizing various athletic activities for an after-school program at Hillside Recreation Center in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia.
