PhilaU Mens Basketball Selected as CACC Preseason Favorite
Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University men's basketball team has been chosen to take the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South Division title in 2008-09, as voted on in the CACC Preseason Coaches' Poll, released today. The Rams received 70 first-place votes- the most of any team in either division. The PhilaU squad has also been tabbed #25 in the country in the 2008 Division II Bulletin Preseason Poll.
Caldwell College was picked to win the CACC North Division.
Head coach Herb Magee led the Rams to a 22-12 finish last season (16-0 CACC), winning the CACC championship in a 73-67 double overtime win against Holy Family and falling 85-75 in the NCAA Tournament first round in a quadruple overtime match-up to St. Rose College. Magee will begin his 42nd season with the Rams this year.
Junior forward Malcolm Ingram (Philadelphia, PA/ Solebury Prep) has been recognized as a member of Street & Smith's Preseason All-America Second Team.
PhilaU will kick-off the season on the road- a Saturday, November 15th game vs. St. Rose College at 2 p.m. The game will be a rematch of the Ram's NCAA Tournament match-up. They will host their home-opener on Wednesday, November 19th vs. the University of the District of Columbia at 7:00 p.m.
