PhilaU Falls 74-70 to Goldey-Beacom in OT Loss
Wilmington, DE- The Philadelphia University Rams (16-4, 8-1 CACC) suffered a 74-70 overtime loss at the hands of the Goldey-Beacom College Lightning (8-13, 4-7 CACC) on Thursday night in a CACC battle. The loss broke the Ram's eight game winning streak that dated back to January 8th, 2009. Junior guard Russell Frederick (Baltimore, MD/ Calvert Hall) led all scorers with 23 points and five rebounds.
The Rams trailed the Lightning for most of regulation, and fell behind 26-22 at the half.
In the second half, the Rams shot 50% from field goal range and cut the lead to just one (54-53) at the 2:43 mark on a trey from junior guard Marcus Lemon (Alexandria, VA/ T.C. Williams). Lemon finished the night with 12 points and three assists.
Lemon's free throws on the ensuing play gave PhilaU a 55-54 lead at 2:10, but the Lightning made two foul shots on the next play to regain the advantage.
PhilaU junior forward Malcolm Ingram (Philadelphia, PA. Solebury Prep) nailed a free throw with 10 seconds remaining, yet GBC's Adrian Miles sank a jumper to send the game into overtime tied 60-60. Ingram had 22 points and 12 rebounds on the night.
GBC went on a 7-0 run to open up the extra stanza and PhilaU's Frederick hit one of his four treys with 17 seconds remaining, but it would not be enough as the Lightning went 6-6 from the charity stripe in the final seconds to secure a 74-70 upset win over the Rams.
The Rams continue CACC action on Saturday, February 7th at 4 p.m. vs. Bloomfield at the Gallagher Athletic Center on Herb Magee Court.
