Turnovers, Foul Shots Plague Rams in 70-62 Loss to Bloomfield

Philadelphia, PA- The #10 Philadelphia University Rams (16-5, 8-2) lost at home for the first time in nearly a year in a 70-62 defeat at the hands of the #7 Bloomfield College Deacons (17-6, 11-1 CACC) on Saturday afternoon.  The game featured the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's (CACC) best teams, as both squads sit atop their respective CACC divisions and are also regionally ranked.

The Rams turned the ball over 15 times to BC's nine, and shot 63% from the foul line in the game.  The Deacons also held PhilaU's top scorer- junior guard Russell Frederick (Baltimore, MD/ Calvert Hall) to just two points.

The Rams fell behind early but went on a 15-0 run to lead 15-7 at 12:38 in the first half.  Seven of those points came from junior forward Malcolm Ingram (Philadelphia, PA/ Solebury Prep) who led all scorers with 26 points and added 10 rebounds.

BC got hot in the last four minutes of the first stanza, holding PhilaU scoreless as they went on an 11-0 run to tie it 33-33 at the half.

The Rams shot just 31% from field-goal range in the second half, compared to their 54% first half percentage.

A layup by PhilaU junior forward Mike Yocum (Dresher, PA/ Episcopal Academy) gave the Rams a brief 35-33 lead to open up the second half, but the Deacons went on an 11-2 run to surge ahead.  Yocum finished with 12 points and 15 boards on the day.

PU junior guard Marcus Lemon (Alexandria, VA/ T.C. Williams) tied it at 44 all with a bucket at 11:32 and senior guard Mike Dunn (Harrisburg, PA/ Central Dauphin) hit two free throws to get within one at 5:54, but that would be as close as the Rams could get.  Lemon completed the day with nine points and five turnovers, while Dunn had 11 points (3-12 from the arc).

The Deacons went 7-8 from the foul line down the stretch to take a 70-62 road win.

PhilaU hosts Wilmington in their next CACC match-up on Tuesday (2/10) at 8:00 p.m. in the Gallagher Athletic Center.
