Rams Keep HFU Beaten in 75-65 CACC Win

Philadelphia, PA- For the third time in just four games, Philadelphia University senior guard Russell Frederick (Baltimore, MD/ Calvert Hall) notched 31 points in a men's basketball contest as his Rams (12-6, 4-1 CACC) kept Holy Family's (0-15, 0-6) losing streak alive in a 75-65 PhilaU win at the Gallagher Athletic Center.

Frederick, who added five assists, four rebounds and four steals, hit five three-balls on the night.  He is averaging 28.5 points/game this month.

HFU, led by Justin Swidowski with 27 points and 11 boards, was outshot 46%-44% from field goal range while the Rams also led in long ball territory (39%-18%).

The Rams trailed 6-5 in the initial minutes, but a jumper from senior forward Mike Yocum (Dresher, PA/ Episcopal Academy) at 13:58 gave the home team the lead for good.  Yocum tallied nine points, three boards and two blocks when all was said and done.

A 15-6 Ram run gave PhilaU a comfortable advantage, and the lead would surge to as many as 20 (38-18) with 3:24 remaining in the half. Senior forward Malcolm Ingram (Philadelphia, PA/ Solebury Prep) got the last PhilaU shot of the half with a layup to make it 41-20, and HFU's Rickie Crews added a jumper before the buzzer sounded to make it 41-24 going into the half.  Ingram scored 17 points on the night, adding eight rebounds and three blocks.

The Tigers came roaring back in the second period, blazing on a 16-4 run to make it a six point game (53-47) at 12:33.  PhilaU senior guard Marcus Lemon (Alexandria, VA/ T.C. Williams) converted on a three-point play at 6:06 to keep his squad ahead and the Rams finished out the night on a14-8 spurt to shut the door 75-65.  Lemon had seven points and three boards in the contest.  

Next up for the Rams will be a road trip at Dominican College on Saturday (1/23) at 3 p.m.
