Rams Just Miss in 59-57 Loss to Lake Superior in Disney Tip-Off Classic
Orlando, FL- The Philadelphia University men's basketball team opened up their 2009-10 season this evening at the Disney Tip-Off Classic, falling to Lake Superior State University 59-57 in the final seconds of the contest. The Rams cut the Lakers lead to just one with 45 seconds to go, but a last second three-point attempt by senior forward Malcolm Ingram (Philadelphia, PA/ Solebury Prep) was just off the mark.
The Rams led by as many as nine points throughout the first half, but shot just 39% from the field and 45% from the charity stripe for the game.
Ingram led all scorers with 22 points and 10 boards, helping PhilaU to a 17-9 lead at 9:33 in the first half. But a layup by LSSU's Michah Hudson with 36 seconds remaining in the first half would give the Lakers a lead they would not relinquish for the remainder of the game.
LSSU was led by Scott Perkins, who dropped in 16 points along with Justin Williams' 10 points and 13 boards.
PhilaU senior center Mike Yocum (Dresher, PA/ Episcopal Academy) added a double-double with 13 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks for the Rams, while senior guard Russell Frederick (Baltimore, MD/ Calvert Hall) contributed 10 points, four boards and two steals on the night.
The Rams continue their southern jaunt when they face-off against Southwest Baptist College tomorrow (11/7) at 4:45 p.m.
