PhilaU Advances to CACC Semifinals in 74-64 Win over Chestnut Hill
Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University Rams (25-6, 16-1 CACC) advanced to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Semifinals with a 74-64 win over Chestnut Hill College (11-16, 7-10 CACC) on Monday night at the Gallagher Athletic Center. The Rams advance to play ‘North' #2 seed Felician College, a 69-58 winner over N #3 Dominican, on Friday (3/5) at noon at Caldwell College. The win was PhilaU's 16th straight.
PhilaU got a game-high effort from freshman guard Jim Connolly (Souderton, PA/ Harleysville) with 22 points and four boards while CHC's Ryan Cook notched 22 for the Griffins.
PhilaU led 7-6 early in the first half, putting some distance on the scoreboard with a 5-0 run keyed by senior guard Russell Frederick's (Baltimore, MD/ Calvert Hall) trey at 15:57. Frederick had nine points, five boards and three blocks for the Rams.
CHC's Francis Ashe gave his team their last lead at 7:54 (26-24), but PhilaU senior forward Malcolm Ingram (Philadelphia, PA/ Solebury Prep) added a layup to tie it and Connolly laid one in for the permanent lead. Ingram contributed 16 points, seven boards and two assists.
The Rams led 37-30 at the half.
PhilaU' s biggest lead of the game came at 6:39 in the second stanza on a layup by sophomore forward J.J. Gundry (McAdoo, PA/ Hazleton Area) to make it 57-42. Gundry had a game-changing 17 points, five boards and three blocks on the night.
The Rams now face Felician College in the CACC Semifinals, a team they beat 69-59 on January 9th. The CACC semis and finals will be held at Caldwell College in Caldwell, NJ.
