PHILADELPHIA, March 24, 2010 – Philadelphia University men’s basketball coach Herb Magee, who recently became the winningest men’s NCAA coach in history, will be honored by the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday, March 30, at 7 p.m.

Magee won his 903rd career game on Feb. 23, passing the record of Bob Knight to become the top men’s coach with all wins in the NCAA.  Magee ended the current season, his 50th year at Philadelphia University, with 907 wins.

The Sixers will recognize this latest milestone in the legendary career of Magee, renowned as a coach, player, “shot doc” to top NBA stars, and Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame nominee, when the 76ers host the Oklahoma City Thunder at the Wachovia Center.

"It is a remarkable accomplishment when you look at Herb's career," said Sixers President Ed Stefanski. "I've known Herb for many, many years and we want to honor him for not just becoming the winningest NCAA coach ever, but for his more than 45 years of coaching at Philadelphia University."

"Herb Magee has long been a Philadelphia University icon and a Philadelphia treasure," said Philadelphia University President Stephen Spinelli Jr., Ph.D. "With his recent record-setting win, Coach Magee cements his rightful place as one of the greatest college basketball coaches of all time. This is the best basketball city in the world and we're thrilled that the 76ers will be honoring Coach Herb Magee – future Hall of Famer."
