CACC SELECTS PHILAUS YOCUM AS 2008-09 MALE SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
NEW HAVEN, CT (July 7, 2009) - Mike Yocum of Philadelphia University has been chosen the 2008-09 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year in an announcement made today by Commissioner Dan Mara. Yocum is a rising senior on the Philadelphia men's basketball team. He is now eligible for the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (CCA) Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award.
Yocum, who plays for legendary coach Herb Magee, hails from Dresher, PA, has enjoyed tremendous success in his two years at Philadelphia both on the court and in the classroom. He enters his senior year with a 3.95 grade-point average as a marketing major and earned a spot the 2008-09 CACC Winter All-Academic team. He is a member of the Dean's List at Philadelphia and was named to the 2009 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Basketball team.
A 6-8 center, he was named to the All-CACC second team, the CACC All-Tournament team and helped lead the Rams to their second straight conference championship this past season. The squad earned a berth to the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament and concluded the season with a 25-6 record. He averaged 10.5 points and 8.8 rebounds per-game and ranked 14th in the country with an average of 2.52 blocks per-game. Yocum started every game and logged an average of 35.0 minutes per-contest.
