PhilaU Remembers ’08 Graduate Marcel Modeste

One Car Accident Kills R-H Alumnus

Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University Athletic Department is saddened to announce the tragic death of former men's basketball student-athlete Marcel Modeste (W. Henrietta, NY/ Rush-Henrietta) in a car accident over the weekend.  He was 23 years old.

Modeste was a three-year men's basketball player at PhilaU who played under legendary Coach Herb Magee.

"Even though he was a walk-on, Marcel was as good a teammate as any player I've ever coached- and that is the ultimate compliment," said Coach Magee.

During his senior season (2007-08), the 6-1 guard was part of the Ram squad that won the CACC Championship and earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament, falling in one of the longest basketball games in PhilaU men's basketball history- a quadruple overtime 85-75 loss at Saint Rose (NY).

He also held a 3.5 cumulative GPA at PhilaU as a finance major.

Modeste is survived by his parents, Faye and Nelson Modeste and his older sister and two younger brothers.
